Hull
band ‘Cannibal Animal’ land with their new five-track gritty, punky and raw EP ‘Human
Manuals’ which claws and churns its way through a quintet of similary sounding
raw and crunchy punk numbers such as ‘Pincushion Parade’ that moves from Nirvana-like
tranquillity to fast-paced shouty lyrics and guitars and the darker and faster ‘I
Feel Alive’ which is the best on the record. ‘Grand Theft Manual’ slows things
down a little to better effect whilst ‘Fall Down’ and ‘Cracked’ add little to
the established formula outside of a much speedier vibe on the latter.
Unpolished
but well put together, this is a solid release for fans of punk but it lacks
any real stand-out moments that stop it from sounding just like one long track
rather than five individual pieces. (4/10)
